In January 2008 Richard Lakey, Proprietor established RL Motor Services Ltd, BMW / Mini & Performance Car Specialist and opened a 900 sq.ft Garage on Wolseley Trust Business Park to serve his ever growing client base. After trading there for 3 years, RL Motor Services relocated in August 2011 to a superb modern 5,500 sq.ft freehold complex in Galileo Close, Plympton situated just past Chaplins. The rising number of car owners who are choosing to use RL Motor Services above all others has given the Garage the opportunity to expand to this scope. The facilities are state-of–the-art with hydraulic service ramps, specialist tooling and computerized BMW/Mini diagnostic equipment. Another service which RL Motor Services is able to offer since the relocation is an in house MOT. We are delighted to now be a leading Vehicle Testing Station with brand Boston MOT equipment. Their impressive new head quarters supported by their skilled team of specialist technician’s carry out any mechanical work on all makes and models of vehicle to the same exemplary standard as they would perform on BMW and Mini built vehicles.
Having been a keen mechanic from an early age. Studied Motor Vehicles at School and attended College at South Devon Training, Richard was eager to join M Drake Motor Repairs, a Citroen Specialist where he served his apprenticeship. 6 years on and Richard wanted to start work on more prestigious vehicles and moved to Windsor Garage who specialise in performance and sports cars.
In 2002, Richard was approached by Ocean BMW having heard what an enthusiastic mechanic Richard had become. Richard then spent 4.5 years of employment at Main Dealer having attended many BMW Technical courses in Bracknell (BMW GB) and becoming a BMW Specialist.
In January 2008 it was time to open his own Garage at Wolseley Trust where the business went from strength to strength and Richard has been pleased to welcome an excellent array of vehicles to his Garage including Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin
